the air over the garden, overlooking the sea. sunday afternoon with friends. the smell of charcoal is in the air. legs are stretched out.
bottle caps jump up with the insects.
here you breathe, here you live. is it always like this?
the green of the garden seems to become more intense. heavy floral fragrance bewitch the spirits.
glittering dust settles on all plants that seem to be reaching in our direction.
the cool of the evening lets you expect the end of the day. is he smiling?
the moon shimmers in the sea. the night shines in silver. all color has escaped and yet - the endlessness of the horizon exerts a magical power. the water is deep and dark. there are dazzling creatures down there, feeling attracted to each other.
is this the light? - Stimming on “Die Luft, Der Gartner und Das Meer”
Few people bring a truly original sound to House music. There are many producers making nice grooves and working the dancefloor, but when it comes to longevity and leaving an indelible mark on the genre and the wider musical sphere, you’ve got to bring something new to the turn table. From the very beginning Hamburg’s Martin Stimming did just that. “I wanted people to see me as an evolving artist, where you never know what exactly you get - but you know that it’s Stimming.”
Stimming’s productions are decorated with his own unique, charismatic field recordings, and he never uses the same sample twice. Sources of sound have included a coffee machine, children’s toys, loose change, a vinyl pressing plant, a 22.000 HP ship engine and an Ikea pizza cutter. “You just can’t get that type of material out of a synthesizer. And depending on how much I tweak it afterwards it can be a very natural 'on this earth' kind of feeling, or the exact opposite.”
Stimming’s EP “Die Luft, Der Gartner und Das Meer” is coming out via Ki Records, which has built a solid roster of intentional artists since the label’s inception in 2009. Ki Releases are diverse in sound and genre, but related in quality - from the smallest detail in production, to the whole package - each release is a thoughtful piece of art.
